Six Years In: The Birthday Bash Club Day

On 8th August we shut the normal timetable and threw a club day for the whole membership to mark six years of The Training Club. Over 60 members came through the door. Coffee and conversation first, then a Lock In session, then teams on the ergs, then a head to head finish that got loud enough that nobody was checking their watch. Coach Saman ran the day with the rest of the coaching team working the floor and training alongside everyone else.

The morning started slowly on purpose. Time to stand around with a coffee and actually talk before anything started, which is half of why club days exist. From there it went into our signature Lock In format, a mix of strength and bodybuilding work built to punish both intensity and volume rather than letting you pick one. After a short break the ergs came out and it turned into a team event: max distance accumulated across every piece of kit on the floor, then a straight head to head for max calories on the bike ergs to finish. That last piece is where it tipped over. Teams that had been pacing sensibly all morning stopped pacing, and the rest of the room was on its feet shouting.

Six years is the part worth marking. Most gyms don't get there, and the ones that do usually get there by selling access to equipment. That isn't what this is. The reason over 60 men gave up a morning to come and suffer on ergs together is the same reason the training works in the first place: you do it alongside people who know your name and notice when you're not there.  Club days come round regularly with a different format each time, so nobody gets to specialise and everybody gets found out somewhere.
