On 4th September, our coach Saman ran 100 miles around a one kilometre loop at Silksworth Lake in Sunderland. He finished in just under 22 hours and raised over £1,000 for Space North East, a charity that supports men through their hardest periods. He chose them for a reason. The last twelve months have tested him, and he wanted to give something back to the kind of organisation that helps men when things get dark.

One hundred and sixty laps of the same kilometre is a specific kind of hard. There's no scenery to distract you, no course to learn, no halfway point that feels like progress. You pass the same stretch of path a hundred and sixty times and the only thing that changes is how much it hurts.
Saman ran through the night and into the following day, and then ran the final 5km at sub five minute pace. Nobody needs to do that. He did it because finishing strong meant something to him, and because leading by example is different from talking about it.

What we'll remember about the day isn't the time. It's how many members came down to Silksworth to show support. They ran laps alongside him through the night so he wasn't out there on his own. They brought food. They stood in the cold and waited.
